The Long Weekend Blog Hop and a Giveaway!

15 October 2012

Heidi from Fabric Mutt and I have teamed up to bring you The Long Weekend Event.  We both love Amy Butler's Weekender Bag but haven't had the moxy to give it a try yet.  I know there are others that also love the pattern but have been a little intimidated by all of the craziness!  Well we have decided that it's time to jump in and do it!

And since the quilting/sewing community is so amazing we figured what better way to tackle something difficult than to tackle it together!  The Long Weekend Event will be a place for us all to learn from each other.

We have a group started on Threadbias; you can find it here.  We will be able to start threads to ask for support or offer advice!

We will have featured bloggers who will offer their advice from their own experiences with The Weekender Bag.  And during the course of events, you could be making your own bag!  At the end of the event, you will have the chance to link up your finished Weekender Bag for the chance to win some amazing prizes from our amazing sponsors!!!

So here's what the schedule looks like:

October 15: Kick Off Day!!
Lori Hartman at Lori H. Designs/Gypsy Girl Fat Quarter Bundle
Heidi Staples at Fabric Mutt/$20 Pink Chalk Fabric Giveaway

October 22: Debbie Jeske at A Quilter's Table/Cameo Fat Quarter Bundle

November 19: Prize Drawings Announced

I hope you will join in with us, I really do think it's going to be a great event!

Just in case you need the pattern, Pink Castle Fabrics has some for sale here.  They also have been so generous to offer 15% off anything in their shop when you use the code LONGWEEKEND15.  The code is good until November 19th.

Heidi and I have noticed that the pattern and the zipper can be tough to locate so we have complied a list of places you might want to check out.

Here are some of our fabulous sponsors!!

  1. Would love to participate, and this bag is definitely in my to do list, but not sure I will make it in time as have a few projects that must get finished before I embark in a new one :(

  2. I think I will be joining and making a patchwork version!

  3. I am not sure I have the skills for this project, but I just might try it anyway! The support and tips would be so helpful! I love the Geocentric canvas fabric and it might have the heft needed for this bag. Thanks for the great series and for the giveaway chance, too!

  6. I think I'll get out of my comfort zone and try this. Not going to do a patchwork though - will stick with a couple of different fabrics TBD. Fun, fun!

  7. i've been eyeing this bag but not sure I can commit right now :( I'll definitely be reading along. Thanks!

  8. I won't be joining on a bag stitch right now. I have forced myself to finish my hexagon quilts hand stitching before I start anything else. I did work on my Bejeweled Wedding ring while my new puppy was here potty training only to save my hexagon quilt from puppy accidents, but that was the limit of my straying from the hexagon quilt.. I must finish my hexie quilt... must!!

  11. I will be following along, but not participating this time around. :( I love the look of this bag. But I'm nearly 36 weeks pregnant and have only enough sewing time and energy left to finish the projects I've already started this year. :) Thanks for the chance to win such lovelies!

  12. This looks tempting but also intimidating. What a great idea to do this! I love the pattern and it will be fun to see the fabrics people choose.

  13. Yes, I'm in! I received the pattern last Friday and have read through it. I have a fabulous piece of home dec fabric I bought off a sale table about a year ago, though it might not be enough and it's weird shaped. I am looking to see what I could pair it with as I've seen others make the pockets, for instance, out of another fabric. I'd love to win the bundle you're giving away! Thanks!

Good luck with the sew along and as a fellow Threadbias gal I will follow along with the pics. Cheers, Karen

  74. I am thinking about doing this, I've read so much about it and the finished ones I've seen are truly gorgeous. I'm just not sure if I have the time to dedicate to such a huge project right now. If I did the bag, I would start with some Sweetwater Canvas that I have and add some solids with it.
